Too Much Sugar: If you are one of those people who struggle to lose weight because you can’t seem to manage to throw away those surgery sweets. In a recent post, I mentioned that there is not a quick way to loose weight. However, there is something you can do right now, that works almost instantly.
Don’t eat (refined) sugar – If you eat refined sugar your blood sugar level will spike. It’s because humans are not meant to eat sugar, that has been subtracted from its original source (refined). Humans are designed to eat long-chain sugar molecules that naturally occur in starchy foods like potatoes and rice.
Too Much Sugar = Blood sugar goes up, mood goes down
Now, when you eat refined sugar, your body will react to it. Sugar equals energy and our brain and body need this energy in order to function properly. Our body depends on long chain carbohydrates. Those carbohydrates (starches) occur naturally. Our body can use starches for a couple of hours.
So, what happens when you eat refined carbohydrates instead of starches? well, your blood sugar levels will spike for a short time, then drop down again fast. Your body reacts to that by telling your brain, you are hungry again.
Why eating starches is so important
What do we have learned so far about eating too much sugar?
⦁ Our body needs long chain carbohydrates (starches) in order to function properly
⦁ Refined sugar is not a good energy source, because it causes our blood sugar level to spike, and then go down quick. Which means you will be hungry again, even though you just ate a whole meal.

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of doing small changes first, in order to achieve the next, higher goal. What each and every one of you can do right after reading this post is, go to your fridge and look for anything that contains added sugar.
For example, yogurt. People tend to eat it in the morning, so the first thing they do is, eating a lot of sugar without them even knowing. One or two hours later, once they got to their office, their blood sugar level is already low again, so they feel hungry.
If they would replace the yogurt with something less surgery, for instance, natural yogurt with no added sugar, they wouldn’t feel hungry again so quickly.
So what you need to do is, replace all meals that contain too much sugar, with a healthy alternative. Add starches (like whole bread, potatoes and rice) to your diet and eat them daily. You will notice that it’ll take you way longer to feel hungry again if you follow these tips. In the long run, you will lose weight, without even trying too hard.
⦁ Small changes, huge impact. Start small by replacing all added sugars in your diet with healthy alternatives. For example, replace sugary corn flakes with oat flakes.
